Curriculum
The curriculum at Ely Classrooms is built around the individual pupil. Young people at every stage have access to academic, practical and creative subjects, but the balance changes according to their age, needs and reasons for being with us.
Key Stage 3
At Key Stage 3, the priority for many pupils is re-engaging with education and finding what makes them want to learn. Each pupil has a bespoke timetable built around their interests and starting point. English, Maths and Science form part of the curriculum, alongside practical, creative and other subjects.
We use the AQA Unit Award Scheme, which has more than 15,000 units across 70 curriculum areas. This gives us enormous flexibility to build learning around an individual pupil, from academic subjects to art, cooking, sport, gardening, life skills and their own particular interests. Pupils gain an AQA certificate for every unit they complete, giving them a record of achievement as their learning develops.
GCSE
At GCSE level, programmes become more focused on qualifications while remaining individual to the pupil. We offer GCSEs, Functional Skills, Project Qualifications and LAMDA alongside practical and creative subjects, so pupils can work towards recognised qualifications without losing the parts of their timetable they enjoy.
Ely Classrooms is in the process of becoming a registered examination centre, so pupils will be able to sit their examinations in the familiar setting in which they have been learning.
Post-16
Our post-16 provision continues the same individual approach. Young people can work towards qualifications they still need while also preparing for their next step, whether that is further education, training or employment.
The curriculum can combine academic study with practical and creative learning, alongside careers education and individual preparation for what comes next.
